SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: Great boost for Yeovil College from AgustaWestland

AGUSTAWESTLAND has donated £10,000 to Yeovil College to improve the technology used in cross college tutorial sessions and to boost innovative new ways of teaching.

The donation came as part of the Hampton 100 campaign.  Launched by former principal James Hampton in 2012, the fundraising aimed to raise money for new equipment for students to ensure that they could use the latest technology to enhance their learning.SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: Great boost for Yeovil College from AgustaWestland

AgustaWestland’s generous contribution paid for 15 new iPads, a central charging unit and a MacBook Air.

Students from across the college curriculum will use these as part of their tutorials, helping them improve study skills and explore broader issues such as exam stress, equality and diversity and career opportunities.

Yeovil College’s head of student experience Michelle Dennett said “We’re incredibly grateful to AgustaWestland for their kind donation.SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: Great boost for Yeovil College from AgustaWestland

“The new equipment is already having an impact, supporting cross college tutorials and enabling students to use innovative apps and programmes to help them actively communicate and learn.

“For example, group discussions are improved by interactive surveys, which allow live data to appear on screen, getting people talking and sharing opinions more freely.

“Young people are growing increasingly used to technology playing a major role in their lives.

“They know about it and enjoy using it, individually or as part of a group.  This money is providing technology which supports learners’ holistic development and adds an additional dimension to teaching and learning at Yeovil College.”

Ray Edwards, AgustaWestland’s managing director, said: “We are delighted to support this initiative at Yeovil College, which is the key provider of Further and Higher Education in our community.

“Using technology in innovative ways to enhance learning will help students achieve their full potential prior to embarking on their chosen career.”
