A SERIES of colour explosions in a quiet Somerset field last month meant only one thing - the Great Somerset Colour Run was underway.

In aid of St Margaret’s Hospice, tonnes of powder paint was thrown and flung at over 1,500 participants as they ran, walked, skipped and jumped their way along the 5km course at Hazelgrove School to help raise funds for the charity,

Over 30 staff from Yeovil-based Yarlington Housing Group donned their runners for the event raising £650 for St Margaret’s Hospice which is the company’s Staff Charity of the Year.

The event culminated with an incredible ‘colour throw’ at the finish line which saw paint clouds fill the sky and ensured everyone was suitably rainbow painted.HOUSING: Yarlington staff support St Margaret's Somerset Hospice

Yarlington community assistant, Lisa Brewchome, said: “It was brilliant fun! We were still plodding round our second lap when we heard the countdown for the ‘colour throw’ paint party - we stopped to watch and it was amazing to hear the joyous shouts as an eruption of colour burst above the crowd.

“It’s wonderful to be a part of an event which has produced such a remarkable atmosphere in support of a charity that offers care to those living with life-limiting illnesses. Some of my colleagues have had family members who were patients at the hospice so I’m delighted we can support St Margaret’s to ensure it can continue to offer first rate palliative care. There were a few tears for those we have lost but equally as many smiles for the happy memories encompassed by this event.”
