BUSINESS: Jones Building Group begin work on new Yarlington housing project

A SPECIAL ceremony has been held between Yarlington Housing Group and Jones Building Group to mark the start of a project that will bring new affordable homes to a South Somerset village.

The development at Chapel Road in South Cadbury will provide six much-needed affordable homes to this rural location and give local people the opportunity to get on the housing ladder through Yarlington’s shared ownership scheme or access homes that are more affordable to rent.

Once completed the site will consist of three three-bedroom houses, one two-bedroom house and two one-bed apartments; four of the homes will be for rent and two will be shared ownership properties.BUSINESS: Jones Building Group begin work on new Yarlington housing project

Jones’ Building Group managing director, Mark Porter, said: “We have worked with Yarlington on a number of projects across an array of our services so it is fantastic to be able to extend this relationship further and work in collaboration to build these new homes in South Cadbury.”

Yarlington’s executive director of growth and development, Stephen Lodge, added: “The price of rural homes, to buy or rent, in small village locations can mean that local people are priced out of the market. It’s great to be able to undertake this development, which will offer affordable homes for local people.

“This is the first new build site that Yarlington have appointed local builders Jones’ as the key contractors for and we are looking forward to working with them.”

The Chapel Road development is scheduled for completion in summer 2017 when the properties will be handed over to Yarlington Housing Group.

More details about how you can apply for one of these properties will be available in the New Year.
