BUDGET 2015: Old Mill looks at the Chancellor's verdict

ACCOUNTANTS and financial planners Old Mill have said that the final Budget ahead of the next General Election has put an extra £200 in everyone’s pocket.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, delivered his Budget at the House of Commons yesterday (Wednesday, March 18, 2015) with the General Election on May 7, 2015, very much in mind.

A spokesman for Old Mill – which has offices in Dorchester, Exeter, Melksham, Wells and Yeovil – said: “In the last Budget of this Parliament the Chancellor geared his presentation to the interests of his main prospective voters for the forthcoming election.

“He extracted every bit of good news data about the economy and introduced measures aimed at helping savers, taxpayers and small businesses - plus the sprinkling of bits of help for a diverse range of interest groups which has become a feature in recent years.”BUDGET 2015: Old Mill looks at the Chancellor's verdict

The Old Mill spokesman added: “In general it has been well received though not all comment has been favourable.

“Labour leader Ed Miliband quite predictably said no one was going to believe it. More critics have commented on what was not covered in the budget and in particular very little indeed was said about the health service.

“Although he predicted an earlier end to austerity that was still only in 2019 and for the next two years it would seem that we are likely to have spending cuts with pain well beyond anything we have seen so far.

“When he was questioned the Chancellor refused to be more specific about where these savings are to come from but the majority would seem to be likely to come from the welfare budgets.”

And the Old Mill spokesman concluded: “Still we will all feel slightly thankful this morning in that the Chancellor would appear to have put about an extra £200 each in our pockets with a strong promise of jam at some future tomorrow.”
