Future economy of Yeovil and South Somerset

A CONFERENCE will be held in Yeovil next week to look at the future economy of the town and South Somerset.

South Somerset Together, the Local Strategic Partnership, is holding an Assembly in Yeovil on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at the University Centre Yeovil.

This is an opportunity to both share different perspectives on the South Somerset economy and discuss and gather views on what is needed to sustain and develop it in an uncertain climate.

Key note speakers at this event are experts in the field of economy and business, including Chris Garcia, chief executive of Heart of the South West (HotSW) Local Enterprise Partnership.

Presentations will look at how South Somerset can continue to maintain and attract significant industry and investment to support its economy, give an insight into the future prospects for town centre economies and probe the role of the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) in supporting the district’s economy.

Representatives from a wide range of organisations, parishes and businesses in the area have already booked to attend this free event. Capacity in the venue is restricted. If businesses or members of the public want to come then please book your place.

Cathy Bakewell, chairman for South Somerset Together, said: “It is very encouraging that so many leading figures are coming to this Assembly to discuss South Somerset’s economy.

South Somerset Together draws representation from a wide range of public, private, voluntary and community organisations and includes all of the main service providers in the district, such as Yeovil College, South Somerset District Council, Yarlington Housing Group and Avon and Somerset Constabulary.

The joined up approach from South Somerset Together aims to tackle some of the most difficult issues creatively in ways that could not be achieved by individual organisations, so saving time and public money.
