YEOVIL NEWS: Fire at St John's Church - congregation evacuated

A CONGREGATION attending a special Christmas service at St John’s Church has been evacuated because of a fire.

News is just coming through of the incident at just before 6pm at St John’s Church in the centre of Yeovil on Sunday (December 3, 2017) evening during the annual Light Up a Life service at the church hosted by St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice.

Eye-witnesses have said that the church has been evacuated because of a fire in the roof of the historic church.

Details are currently scarce, but more news on this later.

UPDATE: 7.35pm - Sunday, December 3, 2017: It would appear that the incident has now been passed and was not that serious. Details have yet to be release, but it would seem that the initial drama is over - thank goodness. It would seem that the church was evacuated as a matter of precaution.

UPDATE: 8pm - Sunday, December 3, 2017:  full explanation from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service - but Mayor thanks emergency services for prompt action……
