SOMERSET NEWS: Hinkley C gets go-ahead by Government
PLANS for a new nuclear power plant at Hinkley Point near Bridgwater have been given the go-ahead by the British Government.
The £18bn Hinkley C project – which is being funded by France’s EDF and China’s CGN Power Group – has been given the green light by Prime Minister Theresa May.
The final decision had been postponed by the Government in July, but now Mrs May has given her thumbs-up to the scheme, although new conditions have been imposed.
It will be Britain’s first new nuclear plant for 20 years.
More news on this later today.
