 SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Elderly woman needs medical help after fire

AN ELDERLY woman suffered from smoke inhalation following a fire this afternoon (Monday, June 13, 2016) at a home near Castle Cary.

Firefighters from Castle Cary and Wincanton were mobilised at just before 5.45pm to the problem at Churchfield Drive in Ansford.

They discovered a fire in a first floor flat and quickly ascertained that all persons were accounted for.

But a Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “An ambulance was requested to attend for one elderly woman who was suffering from inhalation.”

The spokesman said there was “severe fire damaged” caused to the kitchen, while remainder of the property sustained smoke damage.

The Fire and Emergency Support Service Vehicle, run by the British Red Cross, also attended to assist the occupant.

The Fire Service spokesman said that the cause of the incident was accidental.
