SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Time to Talk Day at Chard groups

THE Chard Watch group opened its doors to everyone today (Thursday, February 4, 2016) for the Time to Talk Day.

Julie Matthews, manager of the Watch group, reiterated that it was NOT just about mental health issues - but helping isolated people in Chard as well.

Also present was Debbie Humberstone, founder of The Project, which offers early intervention support for young people with mental health issues.

After eight successful years in Axminster, Debbie is raising awareness in Chard and starting to forge closer links with the community.

Cllr Amanda Broom, of Chard Town Council and South Somerset District Council, said: “Since being elected, I have learnt a great deal about the work that the Watch project undertakes, and am really pleased to see The Project here as well.

“As a community, we should all be getting involved and helping to break down the stigma of mental health, it really can affect any body, at any time and have such an impact on people’s lives.

“To be able to signpost people for the right support is something we should all be doing – Time to Talk Day embodies just this, a simple conversation can make such a difference to helping to end mental health discrimination.”

If you want more information or can help volunteer, please contact Julie Matthews for the Watch project on 07506-238540 and for The Project call Debbie Humberstone on 01404-549045.
