THE St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice charity furniture charity shop in Chard has been badly damaged by flooding due to a burst water pipe – but it will be business as usual for the store.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Business as usual for flooded charity store in Chard

The shop was flooded on Thursday (February 4, 2016) when water poured through the ceiling following a burst pipe on the upstairs of the building in Fore Street.

A third of the carpet was damaged along with three display cabinets, two sofas and nearly 40 ceiling tiles.

The damage will be repaired over the forthcoming week and store staff have apologised to customers for the inconvenience.

“But it will be business as usual,” said store manager Helen Jones. “We are still trading, just with a smaller shop while we sort out the damage.

“We will be having a move around of furniture on Monday to try and still showcase a good selection of our lovely stock.”

Helen added: “We will be open as usual and look forward to seeing customers. Many thanks for the continued support of St Margaret’s as we raise money for our local hospice.”
