SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Modernisation plans for Ilminster’s Post Office branch

THE Ilminster Post Office is to close for nearly two weeks in March to allow for modernisation works to be carried out.

The Post Office branch in East Street is to be changed into one of the organisation’s new main style branches.

But it means it will be closed for refurbishment on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at 12.30pm and the new look branch will open again at its same location on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at 1pm.

Post Office area manager David Gold said: “This change is part of a major programme of modernisation taking place across the Post Office network – the largest in history of Post Office Ltd.”

The changes will mean a modern open plan environment customers and longer opening hours – but will be providing all the same products and services.

Mr Gold added: “If there are any unforeseen schedule changes which mean the dates of closing and re-opening change, posters will be displayed in the branch to let customers know.”

But it means that Post Office customers who use the branch on a regular basis will have to find alternative facilities while it is closed at the Post Office branches in Horton and Chard.

Although the Post Office branch opening hours at Ilminster will remain the same from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and from 9am to 12.30pm on Saturday – retail counter facilities offering a number of selected services will be open from 8.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday and from 9am to 12.30pm on Saturday.
