SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Collecting tins stolen during charity shop burglary

POLICE are appealing for information after an Ilminster charity shop was burgled last night (Wednesday, February 3, 2016) – for the second time in just ten months.

The Sue Ryder shop in East Street was broken into sometime overnight Wednesday, February 3, and Thursday, February 4, 2016, and manager Jackie Cambridge has confirmed they stole the shop’s float money and collecting tins.

Jackie said: “It’s not the money being taken which is the most upsetting – it is the fact that we have to pay for the repairs to the front door which was kicked in and the lost revenue from being closed most of today (Thursday, February 4, 2016).

“Whoever did this made a lot of mess as well in the shop rummaging through stuff so that all needs to be cleared up.”

It is believed that considering the mess which was made by the thieves that some stock may have also been stolen in the raid.

Jackie added: “We have lost money which should have gone towards the care of residents in Sue Ryder care homes around the country.

“I hope the Ilminster people will continue to support us in the next few weeks so we can recoup some of the losses and we apologise for being closed at this time.”
