SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Police ask again for witnesses to come forward over biker death

POLICE have renewed an appeal for a possible witness to a fatal collision to come forward.

The incident took place on Saturday, October 3, 2015, at approximately 2.40pm on the A30 at Chard with the turning for Red   Barn Lane when a motorbike was in collision with a tractor.

The motorcyclist sadly died as a result of his injuries at the scene. He was later formally identified as Alexander Robert Smith, 36, from the Chard area.

A police spokesman said: “We’re appealing for a witness driving a dark coloured, possibly brown, Volkswagen ‘old style’ camper van that was travelling east along the A30 - the same direction as the blue Suzuki motorbike.

“The vehicle was seen leaving the scene minutes after the collision and we believe the driver and front seat passenger may have witnessed the collision. The passenger was seen in the VW crying as they drove away.”

If anyone has information about this incident or if you are the witness we are appealing for, please call the police Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference CI-227 -15-1053.
