CARNIVAL: Congratulations to all the South Somerset circuit winners

THE South Somerset Carnival Federation held its 2015 awards ceremony at the weekend and although it was Ilminster’s Harlequin CC who were crowned champions it was Carnival itself which was the overall winner.

Carnivalites from across the area gathered for the awards ceremony and to celebrate the end of another South Somerset circuit which takes in the parades at Wellington, Ilminster, Chard and Taunton.

Harlequin were overall Federation champs and won a clutch of other awards including best feature, the public’s choice for float, Spirit of Carnival, lorry-build and chairman’s choice.

Their big rivals Gemini CC came runners-up in the float category with Scott’s Terra Nova, but won the best tableau award.

A&A CC with I Robot won the Federation award for overall top walker, while Cousins CC came runners-up with Flying Saucers.

Stilt-walking Lily Cumming won the single walker juvenile category with Woodland Spirit, while Dave and Lisa Arney with Lost in Time were victorious in the pair walking group.

The walking open category was won by Xtreme CC with Salute, while Zem CC with Me Ol’ Bamboo took the open category.

One Plus One CC won the comic category with Medical Misfits.
