CARNIVAL: When did Ilminster hold its first Carnival?

THE Ilminster Carnival Committee is asking for help in finding out when the first Carnival took place in the town.

Committee chairman Kym Toms said: “I understand that it used to be a Hospital Carnival and that it stopped during the war years.

“We have been running longer than Chard Carnival and in the Heritage of the Ile Trust records there are Carnival photos dating back to the 1800s.”

If you can shed some light onto the origins of Ilminster Carnival and when the first procession took to the streets – please email ilminstercarnivalcommittee@hotmail.co.uk or phone Kym Toms on 01460-53508.
