CARNIVAL: Majorettes thank St John Ambulance for its support

ILMINSTER Majorettes have thanked St John Ambulance for its speedy response in helping out when one of the troupe fell ill during Chard Carnival.

The majorettes were nearing the end of the Carnival route on Saturday (October 10, 2015) when one of the girls started suffering from chest pains.

When the emergency was announced it was not long before the medical team from St John Ambulance were on the scene and treating the girl.

“The professionalism that St John Ambulance showed was unbelievable,” said the group’s treasurer Zane Gambling, who is also in charge of the troupe’s sound equipment on the Carnival circuit.

“They were very friendly as well and really put our troupe member at ease and really looked after her.

“She was complaining of chest pains, but she also has problems with asthma, so I made the call to get her checked out – a decision I don’t regret.

“The health and safety of all the troupe – including our helpers – is our number one priority.”

It meant that the troupe stopped just before the official finishing line of the Carnival route as its van had to park-up to allow the medical team to find them easily.

Zane said: “We were only a few feet away from the end – so not to worry. The most important thing is that our troupe member is okay, thanks to the help of St John Ambulance.

“It’s great to know that when a medical situation happens these unpaid and unsung heroes are on hand to look after everyone. We’d also like to thank Sara Lant and Sharon Broom for their assistance.”

Zane praised the rest of the troupe members for remaining calm – even though they were obviously worried about their friend.

Thankfully it is understood that the troupe member is on the mend from her ordeal on Saturday night and could well be taking her place in the line-up with Ilminster Majorettes for Taunton Carnival this coming weekend (Saturday, October 17, 2015).

Zane said that he would like to thank other majorette troupes and Carnivalites who had sent their best wishes.
