CARNIVAL: We need to buck the trend, says Carnival Park chairman

CARNIVALITES have told Ilminster Town Council that it is vital for the future of Carnival if they had a proper purpose-built site to build floats and entries.

The South Somerset Carnival Park project is gathering support and organisers are hoping to gain the backing of local councils.

Joint chairman of the park committee, Steve Dawe, told Ilminster councillors last Tuesday (June 23, 2015) that many Carnival clubs had folded due to a lack of building facilities.

Mr Dawe said that the idea of creating a Carnival Park would help to “buck the trend of decline before it’s too late.”

His presentation followed similar talks to members of Chard Town Council and South Somerset District Council's Area West committee in recent weeks.

Mr Dawe chairs the Carnival Park committee jointly with Ilminster Carnival chairman Kym Toms.
