SOMERSET NEWS: Firefighters battle thatch roof fire

FIREFIGHTERS from across the county have been involved in dealing with a thatch roof fire this morning (Friday, April 10, 2015) on the outskirts of Bridgwater.

The alarm was raised at just before 4am to the incident at Coxhill Farm at North Newton, near North Petherton.

Firefighters from Bridgwater, Taunton, Burnham, Wellington, Nether Stowey and Ilminster were mobilised.

Further support with a high volume pump from Taunton, an aerial ladder and water carrier from Bridgwater, and an incident support unit from Street were also sent.

Crews arrived at the scene and found the property fully involved in the fire.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “This was a detached property with an annex that was empty.”
