CARNIVAL NEWS: Quackers? No – it’s true. Winner of duck race is Mr Duck!

THERE was an amazingly apt result in the annual South Petherton duck race at the weekend which is held each year to raise money for the village’s Carnival.

Hundreds of bright yellow plastic ducks made their way round the watery course in the village on Easter Sunday (April 5, 2015) starting at Sheepwash in Hele Lane and with all eyes were on the finishing line at Silver Street.

Duck number 561 was declared the winner and its owner was named as, unbelievably, Derek Duck. Yes – you read it right. The winning duck owner was Derek Duck.

Prizes were presented at the Brewers Arms in South Petherton with Mr Duck winning the top prize of £100.

Val Schofield was second to win £50 with duck number 605, while Jenny Duffield came third with duck 1,214 and won £15.

Organisers would like to thank everyone who supported the event which raised around £1,000 for South Petherton Carnival funds.

The annual Carnival procession will weave his way through the streets on Saturday, September 12, 2015.
