YEOVIL NEWS: Mobile speed cameras set for Westfield?

SPEED cameras could be placed in a heavily-populated area of Yeovil in a bid to put the brakes on motorists.

There have been growing concerns about the speed some vehicles are being driven at in the Stiby Road and Westfield Road area of Yeovil.YEOVIL NEWS: Mobile speed cameras set for Westfield?

People speaking on social media have said that they are worried that it is only a matter of time before a child is killed in the area with it being home to the Westfield Academy and there being lots of young people walking to and from school at the beginning and end of each weekday.

A police spokesman said: “This is a 20mph school zone and vehicles continue to ignore the speed limit putting children at risk of harm.

“The Safety Camera Partnership is now going to carry out a survey of the area to establish the feasibility of placing the mobile cameras in the area.”

The Westfield Community Association has also been working with police about setting up a Community Speedwatch group in the area.

Police have also indicated that the Safety Camera Partnership will also be evaluating the West Coker Road area of Yeovil – another well-known location for speeding motorists – to see if the camera van can be placed there.
