SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Air ambulance takes van driver to hospital

A VAN driver was taken to hospital this morning (Wednesday, October 8, 2014) by air ambulance after their vehicle was in collision with a lorry carrying hazardous chemicals.

The incident happened at just after 5.40am on the A371 at Grove Cross and firefighters from Wincanton, Castle Cary and Yeovil were mobilised.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We received reports of a road traffic collision between a lorry and a van.

“Crews confirmed that the lorry was carrying hazardous chemicals, but none were leaking. They also said that the van driver was trapped in his vehicle.”

Crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to release the casualty who was then conveyed to hospital via air ambulance.
