SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Lights, camera, action at Sunny Hill Prep

CHILDREN at Sunny Hill Prep at Bruton were given a taste of the big screen when film director Otto Bathurst visited.

Otto, whose recent work includes Margot and Peaky Blinders, gave a talk to the children about the various roles and jobs required to make TV programmes and films.

The girls had great fun at the film workshop and were given specific tasks to decide on appropriate costumes, theatrical make-up, camera work and angles as well as set design.

The Year Six girls were given the additional experience of making a short film with Otto using an iPad.

Year 6 tutor, Rachel Murtaugh, said: “The girls decided on a simple, clear story but put huge effort into thinking about scene sequencing and camera angles.

“Using the technology and software we have in school, and under Otto’s guidance, their finished film looked amazingly professional.

“They thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and I’m sure they will look at TV and films in a totally different light now they appreciate the hard work that goes into making even the shortest clip.”
