SOMERSET NEWS: Conservatives win Frome election

RESIDENTS of the Frome North division have elected Conservative candidate Linda Oliver as their new councillor on Somerset County Council.

Some 2,388 people made their way to polling stations between 7am and 10pm yesterday (Thursday, September 25, 2014) to vote – a turn-out of 33% of the local electorate.

Counting began at 10pm last night after polling booths closed.

The results were as follows: Linda Oliver (Conservative) 1,111; Damon John Hooton (Liberal Democrats) 836; Catherine Richardson (Labour) 163; Adrian Dobinson (Independent) and Les Spalding (Green), both polled 139.

The by-election was held to elect one new member to the Council after a seat was left vacant following the recent resignation of Sam Phripp.
