YEOVILTON LIFE: Roles to play in Commemoration Service

SAILORS from RNAS Yeovilton were involved in the UK’s Commemoration Service held at Glasgow Cathedral to mark the centenary of this nation’s involvement in the First World War.

The service was attended by the Duke of Rothesay, as the Prince of Wales is known Scotland. He was joined by leaders form across the Commonwealth including Prime Minister David Cameron.YEOVILTON LIFE: Roles to play in Commemoration Service

Able Rate Chris Worthington was selected to take part in the memorial as an usher at the cathedral escorting dignitaries from all over the world.

The 33-year-old aircraft engineer is currently based at Yeovilton where he is helping to set up the Navy’s brand new Wildcat helicopters.

Leading Hand Liam Lightley was selected to take part in the memorial as a wreath bearer at the cenotaph in George Square, Glasgow, where he handed the wreath to the Prime Minister.

The 29-year-old is based at Yeovilton where he works as an aircraft engineering technician with 815 Naval Air Squadron and is a mechanical supervisor working on Lynx Mk8 helicopters.

While 26-year-old Able Rate Anthony Pyke, who is currently at RNAS Culdrose in Cornwall, but will be joining the Commando Helicopter Force at Yeovilton in September, was also a wreath bearer at the Glasgow event.

He handed his wreath to the Chief of the Defence Staff, General Sir Nick Houghton, at the Cenotaph in George Square.
