YEOVIL NEWS: Arsonists blamed for town centre fire

POLICE have launched an investigation after two businesses were broken into and one was set on fire overnight in Yeovil.

As reported earlier today overnight between Monday (August 11, 2014) and Tuesday (August 12, 2014), a taxi company and a tailors on Central Road were both broken into and cash and property including a taxi radio and digital radio were stolen.YEOVIL NEWS: Arsonists blamed for town centre fire

A fire was also started in the tailor’s shop which caused significant damage to its contents and smoke damage in the taxi’s offices.

An investigation into the incident has begun and detectives would like to speak to anyone who saw the properties being broken into or someone acting suspiciously in the area.

Investigating the burglaries, Detective Constable Celia Pile from Yeovil CID, told Yeovil Press: “This mindless damage caused significant disruption to the owners and staff of two long-standing Yeovil businesses.

“We’ve begun our investigation and I’d urge anyone with information to get in touch with us.”

Four fire engines attended the scene when the alarm was raised at around 2.30am this morning.

South West Scooters, on the ground floor of the two-storey property, was not damaged in the fire.

Nobody was injured.
