SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Runaway car demolishes lamppost

A CAR rolled down a hill in Chard this evening (Wednesday, July 23, 2014) and crashed into a lamppost.

The incident happened at just before 7pm in Foxglove Way, Chard, and one fire engine from the town was mobilised.

A spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service told the Yeovil Press: “Officers confirmed that a car had rolled down a hill and collided with a lamppost, causing it to snap off at ground level and exposed electrical cables.”

A lighting electrician from Somerset County Highways and engineers from Western Power to deal with the exposed electrical cables within the damaged lamppost were called for.
