SOMERSET NEWS: Fire in a quarry

FIREFIGHTERS were called out this morning (Wednesday, July 2, 2014) to deal with a fire in a machine at a Somerset quarry works.

The alarm was raised just after 11.30am to Aggregate Industries at Shipham Road, Cheddar.

Fire engines from Cheddar and Wells, plus two from neighbouring Avon Fire Service, were mobilised.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service told the Yeovil Press: “Upon arrival, crews found a fire in a small crusher involving the dry felt.

“They also found a small fire involving the drive belt on the cutting machine which was out by the time they got there.

“All electrics were isolated and machinery isolated.”
