SCHOOL PROMS 2014: Dad! I said I wanted to be chauffeur-driven NOT sofa-driven!

SCHOOL PROMS 2014: Sofa-driven and NOT chauffeur-driven to the party!

A POSSIBLE breakdown in communication may have inadvertently led to one student getting top marks for innovation on her form of transport to her end-of-year school prom.

Most students arrive at their Year 11 leavers’ prom in chauffeur-driven limousines, sports cars and other flash vehicles.

Unfortunately things did not go according to plan when Carrera Elson told her dad, Leyland, that she too wanted to be given the star treatment and chauffeured to her Year 11 prom tonight (Wednesday, July 2, 2014) at Haselbury Mill.

And people looked on with amazed laughter when Carrera, dressed in her finest prom dress, arrived sat on a sofa which had been strapped to the base of a ride-on lawnmower with her dad driving dressed as The Stig from TV’s Top Gear.SCHOOL PROMS 2014: Sofa-driven and NOT chauffeur-driven to the party!

And Leyland joked: “I’m sure Carrera said she wanted to be sofa-driven.”

It has become something of a tradition at Wadham School in Crewkerne for the parents and their children to come up with innovative and crazy ideas on how to wow their friends for the prom and their mode of transport.

Two years ago Emily Pounde and Hannah Jagger grabbed the national newspaper headlines when they arrived at their Wadham School prom boxed up as life-size dolls, complete with Barbie packaging, on the back of a flat-bed trailer.

Parents had this year been advised by school staff to be sensible in their prom transport preparations because their ever-ambitious projects in a bid to outdo their friends was resulting in traffic problems at the Haselbury Mill site and taking several hours for all the students to arrive.

Although that advice did not stop Leyland from turning creative with his quirky project – he was told to put the brakes on actually driving into the Tithe Barn dining area of Haselbury Mill and parking up at the table so his daughter could have her prom meal while sat on the sofa!

Whatever will the parents and students at Wadham School come up with for 2015?
