Car doesn't go, but sunken Seat Toledo auction moves into fast lane

THE online auction to buy the famous sunken car of the Somerset Floods ends later today (Thursday, March 30, 2014) with the winning bid already topping £30,000!

Media interest has heightened and at the time of writing – 10.20am – the top current bid for the forlorn-looking 1999 Seat Toledo stood at an amazing £31,100 for a car which Hubert Zajaczkowski bought for £600 and is currently worth what he would get if he scrapped it.Car doesn't go, but sunken Seat Toledo auction moves into fast lane

Hubert, 21, who works as an apprentice at AgustaWestland in Yeovil, had to abandon his car on Christmas Eve in flood water on the road to Muchelney.

The car – which has clocked up 110,000 miles – was recovered last week from its watery grave after two-and-a-half months of being submerged under several feet of water.

Hubert could have just scrapped the car for a £100-or-so, but decided to put the Toledo up for sale via auction website eBay to raise money for a Somerset flood appeal.

The rest you can say is history as the top bid lodged soared.

Deadline for bids is tonight (Thursday, March 20, 2014) at 8.10pm. Everyone just hopes that the winning bidder does pay.
