SOMERSET NEWS: Carbon monoxide alert in Taunton

TWO fire engines from Taunton were sent to a home in the town tonight (Saturday, March 15, 2014) after a carbon monoxide alarm starting sounding.

The occupier of the property in Roman Road was advised to stay outside their home until the arrival of the fire crews at around 6.30pm.

The gas supply was isolated and a gas engineer was requested.

Carbon monoxide poisoning is a risk with any gas solid fuel fires. Odourless, invisible and deadly - it is produced by a faulty appliance or if the flue is blocked.

If inhaled, it can kill within minutes. The early symptoms can be wooziness, nausea and a feeling of disorientation.

The Health and Safety Executive has recommended the use of audible carbon monoxide detectors.
