Escaped prisoner has Yeovil and Somerset connections

A MAN on the run from prison could be hiding out somewhere in the Yeovil and Somerset area.

Police are asking the public’s help to find an absconder from HMP Leyhill in the South Gloucestershire area of the Avon and Somerset force area.

Robert Stevens, 58, has not been seen since lunchtime on Sunday, March 9, 2014. He was reported missing at 8.30pm that day.

He was jailed for six-and-a-half years in 2011 for a series of commercial properties.

Robert Stevens is known to live an itinerant lifestyle and may carry his few possessions in a rucksack.Escaped prisoner has Yeovil and Somerset connections

A police spokesman said: “He has in the past travelled extensively throughout the South West – including Avon and Somerset, Devon and Cornwall and the Dorset police force areas.

“He has also lived in the Bristol, Bath, Weston-super-Mare, Taunton and Yeovil areas.

“He has in the past used small bed and breakfast establishments as well as hostels and will also camp when accommodation was not available.”

Robert Stevens is described as a white man, aged 58 years, 5ft 6ins tall of medium build and clean-shaven with short grey hair. He sometimes wears small rectangulary-shaped glasses which he often lifts on to his forehead.

The police spokesman added: “Anyone spotting Robert Stevens is advised not to approach, but to contact us on 999.”

People are asked to quote reference number MP759/14 if they do spot Robert Stevens.
