Roof fire in three homes

FIREFIGHTERS from Yeovil were called out tonight (Sunday, March 2, 2014) to help deal with a fire involving three properties.

The alarm was raised at just after 8.15pm to reports of smoke issuing from the roof of three properties at Milborne Port.

Two fire engines from Sherborne were mobilised along with further support from Yeovil.

Officers found the roof space to be smoke logged and they put out a chimney fire.

The incident was still going on at 10pm tonight with officers checking the loft space for “hotspots.”

More details will be added to this story when known.

UPDATE: The incident has now been finalised. The fire involved roof battens and roofing felt which had spread from an initial chimney fire.

A spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "The cause of the fire was accidental."
