University Centre Yeovil backs Somerset flood appeal

A COFFEE morning organised by staff at the University Centre Yeovil has raised £140 for victims of the Somerset floods.

Volunteers baked a wide selection of cakes and biscuits, which were then sold alongside hot drinks to raise money for the Somerset Emergency Flood Relief Fund.University Centre Yeovil backs Somerset flood appeal

Event organiser Julia Gillard said “I saw the images of the terrible floods on the news and decided that I wanted to do something to help.

“The floods are also very close and students and staff are being affected by them in various ways, so my colleagues were keen to get involved too.

“Although I thought we couldn’t do much in the face of such a large scale event, I knew we could do something.

“I’m very grateful to everyone who took the time to bake or buy cakes and dropped in to make a donation.  A big thank you to them all.”

Director of Higher Education, Dr Paul Bailey, was among those who supported the fundraising.

“The University Centre Yeovil is very much part of the local community, so we were particularly shocked by the effects of the recent bad weather on people in the area,” he said.
