Graphic design students encouraged to be inspired by Yeovil College life

GRAPHIC design students at Yeovil College have been learning from professional designers as part of a project supported by Somerset County Council.

During a two-day workshop staff from Redfront Design worked with students on projects inspired by their life at Yeovil College.

Redfront Design specialise in helping businesses with their design needs and supporting organisations to test ideas and staff from the company shared their expertise.

Working on projects inspired by their college surroundings, the students developed their proposed solutions from idea to prototype stage.Graphic design students encouraged to be inspired by Yeovil College life

Student Jacob Higgs, 18, of Yeovil, said: “It’s been pretty good fun to work with Redfront Design over the past couple of days.”

One idea put forward by the students saw them come up with a phone app that translated speed to written text in lectures.

“The idea was that you could record lectures rather than trying to keep up taking notes, meaning you could pay more attention and go back and listen to it later,” added Jacob.

It was all part of the SMRST project which is supported by Somerset County Council and the Open Innovation Project which is part funded by the EU.
