Power tools stolen in village burglaries

WORKMEN and DIY enthusiasts are being urged by police to review their security after power tools were stolen in a series of burglaries in a South Somerset village.

Residents in Shepton Beauchamp – which lies in between Ilminster and South Petherton – and the surrounding area are being asked to make sure their properties are secure and their power tools are marked with their postcode and house number.

Overnight between Wednesday, February 19, 2014, and Thursday, February 20, 2014, there were two burglaries and one theft from a motor vehicle on Middle Street.Power tools stolen in village burglaries

A Stihl hedge trimmer and a Stihl strimmer were stolen a shed, two Stihl hedge trimmers were stolen from another property and a Stihl MS171 chainsaw and an ActecMax CS5800 chainsaw were stolen from a vehicle.

PC Matt Lorimer said: “The burglaries are being investigated and we would like to speak to anyone who saw someone acting suspiciously in the area, has information about the people involved or has been offered the stolen property for sale.

“If you own power tools please mark them with your postcode and house number and keep them locked away securely.

“You should also check your shed has strong hinges and a decent lock, and make access to your garden shed more difficult by putting doors on side passages and keeping them locked and using motion-activated security lighting.”

Anyone with information can contact PC Matt Lorimer by phoning 101.
