New bike for Christmas? Make sure you lock it up!

POLICE have reported an increase in the number of thefts of bicycles from the Abbey Manor Park estate in Yeovil.

There have also been a number of incidents where garages, garden sheds and homes have been broken into or thieves have attempted to gain entry in recent weeks.New bike for Christmas? Make sure you lock it up!

PCSO Elaine Weeks has carried out leaflet drops and visits to residents in the area reminding people to secure their property such as front and back doors, garages and sheds and to also put all valuables such as phones, laptops and cash out of view.

“Most walk-in burglaries are of an opportunistic nature so if the offender can’t see anything to take they are less likely to risk an entry,” she said.

The Halfords store on the Houndstone Business Park has also been giving out crime reduction advice to those buying new bikes.

The crime reduction advice given by police should be taken on board by everybody - not just those living on the Abbey Manor estate.
