Driving through floodwater is a gamble

DRIVERS in Yeovil and South Somerset are being advised – once again – not to take a gamble and drive through floodwater.

Heavy overnight rain across the district will have caused localised flooding problems on roads and lanes throughtout the area.

And the message from the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is simple – don’t drive through floodwater.

Area Manager Phil Martin said: “Your car can float in as little as 30cm of water and it takes much less than that to knock someone off their feet.

“People must ask themselves, is it worth gambling with your car and maybe even your life to take the shortest route home rather than take a detour on a safer journey?”
