Serious accident on the A303

TWO people have been taken to hospital this afternoon (Saturday, November 16, 2013) following a two-vehicle crash on the A303 near Sparkford.

Two fire engines and rescue tender from Yeovil were mobilised at just before 5pm to the accident on the westbound carriageway of the A303 near the Sparkford roundabout and the Shell Garage.

A spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said there was a male casualty in each vehicle.

“The casualties were released from the vehicles by the Fire Service personnel using stabilising equipment and hydraulic rescue equipment,” he said. “Both casualties were taken to hospital by ambulance.”

Police have closed the A303 both ways due to the accident from between the A359 Sparkford roundabout the B3151 Camel Cross, the turn-off taken for RNAS Yeovilton and Ilchester.
