Confusion set for drivers over new look roundabout?

COUNCILLORS have warned that a new layout for one of the busiest roundabouts in Yeovil could spell total confusion for motorists.

Members of Brympton Parish Council were recently presented with the design for the roundabout at Bunford which links with the Cartgate link road.

The plan has been drawn up by the Abbey Manor Group as part of the planned Bunford Park industrial development on the outskirts of Yeovil.Confusion set for drivers over new look roundabout?

The design shows that there would be a throughabout sliproad for traffic coming off of the Cartgate wanting to go down the Western Relief Road which would see motorists, in effect, taking a shortcut through the roundabout rather than actually around it.

And there is also a route for cyclists and pedestrians across the middle of the traffic island with the whole roundabout governed by traffic lights and crossings.

Brympton parish councillors were, however, less than convinced it would be welcomed by motorists when they were given a copy of the design.

Cllr Sarah Lindsay said: “This could be very confusing for elderly people.”

And Cllr Jonathan Davies added: “Young people might have problems with this as well!”

Nigel Timmis, of the Abbey Manor Group, presented the plan to Brympton Parish Council.

“Somebody far cleverer than me has looked at this with analysis and design,” he said.

He was unable to give a “start time” for the plans, but said the work would be carried out in two phases including road widening and enlarging of the roundabout.
