Children in Need fun and games

PEOPLE went crazy for Children in Need yesterday (Friday, November 15, 2013) with a variety of fun-filled events.

Students at Yeovil College held a host of money-raising events, while workers turned up at their shops and offices in fancy dress, pyjamas and the all-in-one onesies.

Mad-capped Mandy Purchase, of Yeovil, caused amusement when she went shopping at Tesco dressed as a Dalmatian Dog and was founding sniffing about in the doggy treat aisle.

The Yeovil Taekwondo and Kickboxing Club held a demonstration of their skills at the Asda store in Preston Road, Yeovil, last night while there was musical entertainment provided at the store by members of the St James Community Choir.Children in Need fun and games

The Brewers Arms pub at South Petherton took on a different theme by having a night of fundraising entitled Child in Need to support the Get Well Somer appeal.

The appeal is raising money for young Somer Woodley-Dale who was diagnosed at an early age of having Noonans Syndrome which causes heart and growth problems and scoliosis.

Earlier this year an operation to have rods put into her back to help straighten it, but tragically she fell seriously ill and now 12-year-old Somer has suffered brain-damage, paralysed on one side and has no speech.

Although she comes from Basingstoke in Hampshire, she has family living in South Somerset.

The appeal is raising money to help give Somer the rehabilitation and special equipment she will need.

A whole host of events took place at the Brewers Arms last night to raise money for this special little girl.

More on Somer’s story and the fundraising at the Brewers Arms will feature shortly on Yeovil Press.
