Police confirm attempted abduction claims were without foundation

PARENTS and children in Yeovil have been urged to remain vigilant against Stranger Danger – despite a latest alleged incident in which two girls were approached by a man proved to be a false alarm.

The alarm was raised last Friday morning in the Birchfield area when a man allegedly tried to lure the girls into his car as they walked to school.Police confirm attempted abduction claims were without foundation

But police confirmed yesterday (Tuesday, October 22, 2013) that officers had since spoken to the girls and a spokesman told that Yeovil Press that the “claims were without foundation.”

Police had intimated just hours after Friday’s alleged incident that it might have been a false alarm.

DC Catherine King, of Yeovil CID, said at the time that she “must stress that parents and children should not be alarmed.”

It follows two separate incidents at Birchfield Park at the end of September where young children were approached by men, while a third happened nearby at Rosebery   Avenue.

A letter was sent home to parents by Birchfield Primary School head teacher Richard Culham on Monday to say that Friday’s allegations were a false alarm.

But he added that police would advise people to contact them if they have any information about the incidents in September, while to immediately phone 999 if they have any “worries or sense of danger.”

Mr Culham told the Yeovil Press that parents should frequently remind their children about the importance of not talking to strangers.
