People stuck in Yeovil shop lifts as power cut strikes

THE widespread power cut in Yeovil town centre today (Wednesday, August 14) saw a number of people left stuck in shop lifts.

The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received consecutive calls to Boots and Marks & Spencer in Middle Street, Yeovil, shortly after 1pm today when the power was lost due to a problem at a local electrical sub-station.

Two fire engines from Yeovil were mobilised and officers helped to rescue the trapped people.

The power cut lasted several hours while electrical engineers rectified the problem before power was restored at around 4pm today.
