Done it! Adrian Radford swims the English Channel

A SIMPLE message on his Facebook page this evening (Wednesday, August 14, 2013) told the world what shattered English Channel swimmer Adrian Radford had wanted to say – DONE IT!Done it! Adrian Radford swims the English Channel

Adrian, 51, of Montacute, pictured right, said he took 18 hours and 16 minutes to make the marathon swim across the Channel today.

The Yeovil Press reported yesterday that the challenge to swim the English Channel was cooked up over a few pints of cider back in September 2011 with a pal.

In the cold light of day Adrian, or Ade as he is better known, and his friend had sobered up and thought better of their crazy plans.

But it was too late for Ade. They had already publicised their challenge on Facebook and Ade’s mum had already seen it and was talking proudly of her son.

Ade, who is well known in the area for his long association with Ivel Barbarians Rugby Club, could not let her down and so started a mammoth training schedule in preparation for the big event.

And today (Wednesday, August 14) he achieved his goal.

Messages of congratulations have flooded into his Facebook page.

One well-wisher summed up the mood: “We are so proud of you – what an amazing achievement.”

He had set himself a target of raising £5,000 for the British Institute for Brain Injured Children charity which is based near Bridgwater.

That total has already been surpassed – but his fantastic efforts deserve so much more.

Plenty of messages of congratulations placed on his Facebook page have made reference to his liking of cider – which back in September 2011 had a lot to do with his marathon challenge being cooked up in the first place.

One wrote: “You are bloody amazing, an inspiration – well done you, enjoy as much cider as you can stomach!”

The Yeovil Press would echo those sentiments!
