Police pleased with Facebook group link-up

POLICE are delighted to have linked-up with a Yeovil-based social networking Facebook group.

Officers are keen to broaden their communications with people and it has led Sgt Jamie Rees, of Yeovil police, teaming up with a Facebook group called Yeovil Real News.

Sgt Rees (pictured left)  has been praised by his boss, Inspector Tim Coombe (pictured right), for forming a link with the group’s organisers.

Insp Coombe said that Yeovil Real News was full of “hot gossip” but suggested that it could lead to police gathering information they might not always be able to get their hands on.

And he added: “Having that link will allow us to put out true facts and hopefully cut the rumours down.”

Insp Coombe, speaking this week with members of South Somerset District Council, added that police could also be contacted via its own website at www.avonandsomerset.police.co.uk or via Twitter.
