Residents and staff at Yarlington Housing Group’s retirement living schemes have been busy knitting and sewing together the array of individual squares to make the Big Blanket which created an impressive sight. The initiative was started in March 2013 to celebrate National Bed Month - a month long celebration dedicated to the importance of getting a good night’s rest.

The blankets were broken down into manageable sizes and individually raffled off at Yarlington’s head office in Yeovil and retirement living schemes. So far a total of £245 has been raised for the Flying Colours Appeal, and money is still coming in from the schemes.

Jane Ward, retirement living and supported housing team leader, said: ‘’This has been a fantastic project; we never thought we would get the incredible response we did. The idea evolved as it was something that all our schemes could take part in.

‘’Our residents have been so enthusiastic and I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that has been involved for their dedication and donations of wool, time and skills.’’
