Sam's marathon challenge for VICTA Children

A YEOVIL woman who took up jogging less than two years ago is now gearing up for one of the biggest challenges of her life – the London Marathon.Sam's marathon challenge for VICTA Children

Sam Vickery (pictured), 31, will be running the 26.2-mile course on April 21 to raise money for the Visually Impaired Children Taking Action charity better known as VICTA Children.

Her support of the charity comes with her sister Kath, 30, being born partially sighted and who is now registered blind.

“VICTA help families with visually impaired youngsters by providing them with grants for equipment,” she said.

“It is a great charity and do some amazing things. I’m hoping to raise as much money as I can for them.”

But with the clock ticking down to April 21 and the London Marathon – the nerves and excitement are beginning to build for Sam.

“I started running properly about 18 months ago by using one of those phone apps where you walk for five minutes, run for a minute before walking again for another five,” she said.

“I really, really struggled to start with and I can hardly believe that in April I will be taking part in the London Marathon!”

Sam added: “I am incredibly proud to be running for VICTA though and would like to raise as much as I can for them.”

To help boost her fundraising she is organising a table-top sale to be held at Monmouth Hall in Yeovil on Saturday, February 9, between 10.30am and 2pm.

Anyone wanting to have a table to sell their crafts and bric-a-brac etc are urged to contact Sam as soon as possible on 01935-479992 to book a table or email her at x23essjay@yahoo.co.uk .
