Farewell to beautiful Catherine

HUNDREDS of people attended the funeral service today for murdered South Somerset woman Catherine Wells-Burr.Farewell to beautiful Catherine

Catherine, 23, was murdered back in September last year, but her family had only recently been able to arrange a funeral as her body had not been released for burial because of the ongoing police investigation.

St Mary's Church at Chard was packed to capacity today for a service of thanksgiving. There was standing room only for the terribly sad and moving service, which was, at the time, a lovely, fitting and dignified farewell to someone who was loved by so many.

Her parents, Jayne and Philip, and sister Leanne, walked behind the coffin into the church and they would have taken great comfort in seeing so many people there to share in their grief.

The service was led by Rev Sue Tucker who said that the family still needed the support of everyone in the months ahead as they still grieve for the loss of Catherine.

It is now nearly five months since Catherine's body was found in a burning car at the side of the busy A358 in a lane close to Ashill, near Ilminster. Three people have since been charged in relation to her murder and they are due to stand trial at Bristol Crown Court in April.

A private cremation was held following the service of thanksgiving today, while mourners gathered at the Guildhall in Chard to reminisce on a life lived to the full, but a life cut so tragically short in what Rev Tucker described as a 'wicked and evil' act.
