Our boys are off to Afghanistan

MEMBERS of the RNAS Yeovilton-based 847 Naval Air Squadron depart for a five-month deployment to Afghanistan this weekend.

They have just returned from pre-deployment training in the deserts of California, but are flying out to Afghan this weekend from RAF Brize Norton.

They will be flying the Yeovil-built Lynx Mk9A helicopter that had previously been flown by the Army Air Corps.

A spokesman for the 847 NAS said: ''This deployment will be a historic moment for the Squadron as this will be the last time they will be flying the Lynx Mk 9A as it is due to go out of service to be replaced by the new Wildcat helicopter.''

The Yeovil Press would like to wish the personnel from RNAS Yeovilton the very best of luck for their tour of Afghanistan and pray they return home safe and well in five months time.
