Crash, bang, wallop: Jessops close

YEOVIL has lost another traditional high street name with photographic chain Jessops closing all of its 187 stores across the country.

The company fell into administration earlier this week and administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers said on Wednesday that there might be 'some' closures.

But the decision was announced today that its stores and websites would cease trading at the end of today (Friday) with the loss of around 1,370 jobs.

Customers who have had photo orders with Jessops should have been contacted by store managers to arrange collection. If the photos have not been collected the company website has said they will be 'disposed of as confidential information.'

People who have had photographic equipment being repaired with Jessops will be able to reclaim their items despite the stores being closed. The will be contacted to arrange collection.

But the Jessops website said: ''Please do not attend the store unless advised by the manager as access will otherwise not be possible.''

It is another blow to the high street - none more so in Yeovil where it was a key store in the Lower Middle Street area of the town.

The Yeovil Press wish the staff the best of luck for the future and hope they find new employment soon.
