Police hunt for mother and child

POLICE have revelaed that a young child was hit during a disturbance outside a South Somerset pub in the early hours of New Year's Day. Police hunt for mother and child

The incident took place between midnight and 1am on January 1 outside the White Horse pub in the Market Place, Wincanton. There was a disturbance during which a young child, aged around four-years-old, was struck in the face whilst in the arms of its mother.

The incident was reported to police by a witness and the mother and child left the scene before officers arrived.

A police spokesman said: "We are investigating the incident and are trying to locate the young victim and its mother as well as speak to other people who were out for New Year's Eve celebrations and witnessed the incident."

Enquiries have lead to the arrest of a 24-year-old local woman on suspicion of assault. She has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
